Nuance Audio hearing glasses
The all-in-one hearing and vision solution.
If you’ve started to find restaurants harder, family dinners louder, and conversations in busy rooms harder to follow — you’re not alone. Mild hearing loss affects most adults to some degree from their late 40s onwards. The problem most of our patients describe isn’t that they can’t hear at all — it’s that they can’t quite separate the voice they want to hear from everything else going on.
The other thing we hear: patients tell us they don’t feel ready for hearing aids. Either because of how hearing aids look, or because “hearing aid” feels like a category they’re not in yet.
Nuance Audio hearing glasses give you a different option. They’re regular-looking glasses, with hearing assistance built invisibly into the frames. Same prescription lenses. Same Transitions® photochromic lenses if you want them. No earbuds, no behind-the-ear units, no visible technology.
What Nuance Audio glasses do
Nuance Audio uses directional microphones built into the temples (the arms of the glasses) to pick up sound from in front of you and amplify it — particularly the conversation you’re trying to focus on — while reducing the noise around you. The open-ear design means you don’t lose your sense of natural sound; you hear the world the way you normally do, just with the conversations in front of you clearer.
The most commonly described improvements from people using them:
Restaurants and cafés — directional microphones reduce ambient noise so the conversation across the table cuts through.
Workplace meetings — busy offices, multi-person discussions, hybrid video calls.
Family gatherings — multi-generational conversations where several people are talking at once.
Watching TV with family — fewer requests to turn the volume up.
Nuance Audio is designed for mild to moderate hearing loss. If your hearing loss is profound, traditional hearing aids may still be the better fit — and we’ll tell you honestly if that’s the case after the consult.
Glasses and hearing in one consult
This is the part that makes Nuance Audio worth coming to an optometrist for, rather than a general hearing-aid retailer:
You can fit your prescription lenses — single vision, progressive (multifocal), or reading prescription.
You can have Transitions® lenses — they darken outdoors and clear indoors, so the glasses work as both your indoor and your sunglass pair.
The fitting is done in one consult, not two separate appointments at two separate businesses.
The frame fit, the prescription, and the hearing assistance are tuned together — pupil height, frame position, and acoustic comfort all considered as one fitting decision.
Try them in-practice before you decide
We’re an authorised Nuance Audio provider. That means we hold demo units in-practice for you to try as part of your consult, before any purchase commitment.
A typical first appointment looks like this:
A comprehensive eye exam to confirm your prescription.
A conversation about your hearing experience — when you struggle, where, and with whom. No clinical hearing test at this stage; the questions tell us most of what we need.
A try-on of the demo unit, with your prescription approximated where possible, so you can hear how it works in real conditions — including with us deliberately talking over each other so you can experience the directional microphones.
A discussion of frame shape, lens choice, and Transitions® if you want them.
No pressure to decide on the day. If you want to think about it, that’s fine. We’ll book a follow-up.
Frame styles and colours
Nuance Audio is available in two frame shapes:
Square — an angular, classic style.
Panthos — a softer, rounded silhouette.
Both shapes come in three colours: Shiny Black, Shiny Burgundy, and Deep Blue.
We’ll talk through which shape suits your face during the fitting, and the frame fit measurements get taken in the same appointment.
Warranty and aftercare
Beyond the manufacturer’s warranty, we provide ongoing aftercare in-practice — adjustments where possible, app setup help, troubleshooting, and the small day-to-day things that come up with any new piece of technology. You won’t be sent home to figure it out on your own.
If something isn’t working the way you expected it to, come back in.
Frequently asked questions
-
No. Nuance Audio glasses are a hearing-assistance device, not a prescribed hearing aid. They’re designed for people with mild-to-moderate hearing difficulty who want discreet, glasses-integrated support. If your hearing loss is more significant, we’ll tell you that honestly after the consult and refer you appropriately.
-
Not for this appointment. We don’t perform a formal clinical audiogram as part of the Nuance Audio consult. We’ll ask about your hearing experience in everyday situations, and that’s usually enough to assess fit. If the consult suggests you’d benefit from a formal hearing assessment, we’ll refer you to an audiologist.
-
Yes. Nuance Audio frames can be fitted with multifocal (progressive) lenses, single vision, or reading prescriptions. See our multifocal lenses page for more on how we fit multifocals at Stylish Optometrist.
-
Yes. Transitions® photochromic lenses are available in the Nuance Audio frames. They darken outdoors and clear back to transparent indoors — which works particularly well if you’re using the directional microphones in outdoor environments like café patios or markets.
-
The rechargeable battery provides around 8 hours of active listening per charge. The charging case provides additional charges when you’re on the go. Most patients find this covers a full day of use without needing to top up.
-
The frames have a splash-resistance rating but are not designed for swimming, showering, or heavy rain. They’re fine for everyday use — including light rain — but we’d recommend removing them before water activities.
-
Pricing depends on your prescription choice and lens options (including Transitions®). We’ll give you a full breakdown at the consult before you commit to anything. There’s no obligation to proceed on the day.
-
That’s exactly what the in-practice demo is for. We want you to be confident before you order. If you proceed and find the hearing assistance isn’t working as expected, come back in — we’ll troubleshoot with you and explore options. We don’t disappear after the sale.
Book a Nuance Audio consult
If you’ve been noticing the conversations are getting harder but you’re not ready for traditional hearing aids, this is the appointment to book. Allow about 45 minutes for the full consult, including the demo try-on.
